Connect GitHub
Updated June 9, 2026
Connecting GitHub lets you create and link branches to tasks, so code and work stay tied together. Once connected, you can create a branch for a task or link an existing one without leaving Milestone.
Connected by a workspace admin
GitHub is a workspace integration, so an admin connects it in workspace settings. After that, everyone on the workspace can link branches to tasks.
Connect GitHub
Open Integrations
Go to Settings → Integrations (under your workspace) and choose GitHub.
Name and create
Give it a Name, then click Create Integration.
Authorize on GitHub
Click Complete Authorization, sign in to GitHub, and grant access to the repositories you want Milestone to work with. You'll return to Milestone with the status set to Connected.
Link a branch to a task
Open a task and find its GitHub section:
- Create Branch — choose a Repository and a base Branch, set the new Branch Name (letters, numbers, hyphens, underscores, and slashes), and Milestone creates it for you.
- Link Branch — connect an existing branch from a repository to the task.
One source of truth
Linking branches to tasks means anyone looking at the task can see the work in progress — and your AI agents get that context too.
Manage the connection
In Settings → Integrations, open the GitHub integration to choose which repositories it can access, Reconnect if the connection expires, or Remove it entirely.
