Create a board
Updated June 9, 2026
A board is where your team's tasks live, organized into columns that represent your workflow. Each project can have several boards. This guide creates one and explains the board key that prefixes your task identifiers.
Create a board
Start a new board
In the sidebar, click New Board.
Name it
In the Create New Board dialog, enter a Board Name.
Set the board key
A Board Key is auto-generated from the name (you can edit it). It's 2–4
uppercase letters/numbers and prefixes every task identifier — tasks are
numbered as KEY-01, KEY-02, and so on.
Create it
Add an optional Description, then click Create Board. You land on the new board's Kanban view, ready for tasks.
Pick a short, memorable key
The board key shows up on every task (e.g. DASH-01), so a short, recognizable
key like DASH or WEB makes tasks easy to reference in conversation and
commits.
Manage a board later
Open the board's options menu (the ⋯ button) for board-level actions, including:
- Board Settings — rename, change the icon, edit the description or board key.
- Add Column and Reorder Columns — shape your workflow.
- Duplicate Board and Save as Template — reuse a board's setup.
- Go To Archive — view archived tasks.
Changing the board key
You can change the board key in Board Settings → General, but it updates the identifier on every existing task — so change it deliberately.
Next steps
- Shape your workflow: Customize your board columns.
- Add work: Create and organize tasks.
- Run iterations: Enable and run cycles.
