Create and organize tasks
Updated June 9, 2026
Tasks are the unit of work on a board. You can add one in seconds with the column quick-add, or open the full New Task dialog to set everything up front. This guide covers both, plus the fields a task can carry.
Quick-add a task
The fastest way to capture work:
Add from a column
At the bottom of any column, click Add Task and type a title (the field prompts "What's next?").
Set quick fields (optional)
Set Priority, Assignee, or Due Date inline if you want.
Save
Press Enter (or click out) to create the task in that column.
Create a task with the full dialog
For a fully specified task, use New Task in the toolbar:
Open New Task
Click New Task to open the Create New Task dialog.
Set the core properties
Enter the Task Title ("What needs to be done?"), and confirm the Board and Status (column) it should land in — these are required.
Add details
Expand Additional Details to set assignee, dates, time estimate, labels, milestone, cycle, and any custom fields. Add a Description for context.
Create it
Click Create Task.
Task fields
A task can carry these fields (set them in the dialog or inline on the task detail panel):
- Priority — Urgent, High, Medium, or Low.
- Kind — Task, Fix, Build, or Figure.
- Assignee and Reporter — a teammate (or an AI agent) and who raised it.
- Labels — type to search or create; press Enter to add a new one.
- Time Estimate — e.g.
1.5h,2d,1w. - Points — story points for estimation and velocity.
- Start Date and Due Date.
- Milestone and Cycle — group the task under a goal or an iteration.
- Subtasks — break the work down; progress shows as completed/total.
- Dependencies — mark what this task is blocked by or blocks.
Drag to change status
On the Kanban view, drag a card between columns to update its status, or drag within a column to reorder. In the List view you can select multiple tasks for bulk actions like Mark as done, Move to Board, or Delete.
