Track big goals with milestones
Updated June 9, 2026
Milestones track progress toward bigger goals — a release, an epic, a launch — by grouping tasks under a target. Like cycles, milestones are a board feature you turn on per board.
You'll need admin access
Milestones are toggled in Board Settings, available to board admins.
Enable milestones
Open Board Settings → Features
From the board's options menu (⋯), choose Board Settings, then open the Features tab.
Turn on Milestones
Switch Milestones on — "Track progress with milestones and epics for better project organization." A Milestones view appears on the board.
Create a milestone
Open the Milestones view (empty state: "No milestones — Create your first milestone to track progress").
Create one
Click Create Milestone to open the Create New Milestone dialog.
Fill in the details
Set a Name (e.g. Q1 Launch, MVP Release), an optional
Description, Start / End / Target dates, Status
(Planning, In Progress, Completed, Cancelled), Priority, and a color.
Create it
Click Create Milestone.
Work with milestones
- Add tasks to a milestone by setting the Milestone field on any task (in the task dialog or its detail panel), or filter the board by Milestone.
- Switch views between List and Gantt to see milestones as a table or a timeline.
- Post updates on a milestone to keep stakeholders informed — you can even draft an update with AI from the milestone's recent activity.
Related
- Plan the work inside a milestone with cycles.
- Sequence work with dependencies.
