Customize your board columns

Columns are the stages of your board's workflow — for example To Do, In Progress, and Done. You can add, rename, reorder, recolor, and delete them, and set a WIP limit to cap work in progress. Column changes are made by board admins.
Add a column
Open Add Column
From the board's options menu (⋯) choose Add Column (or use the + at the end of the columns).
Name and place it
In the Add New Column dialog, enter a Column Title, choose a Column Position (at the start, or after an existing column), and optionally pick a Column Type and color.
Create it
Click Create Column.
Edit a column
Open a column's menu (the ⋯ on its header) for:
- Rename Column — edit the title inline.
- Change Color — recolor the column.
- Set WIP Limit — cap how many tasks the column can hold (e.g.
5). When full, the column shows WIP limit reached. Use Remove to clear it. - Column Type — tag the column's intent (To Do, In Progress, Review, Blocked, Done).
- Delete Column — remove it.
WIP limits keep work flowing
A WIP limit on your "In Progress" column is a simple way to stop the team from starting more than it can finish — a core practice for healthy flow.
Reorder columns
From the board's options menu (⋯), choose Reorder Columns, drag the columns into the order you want, and click Save.
Delete a column
When you delete a column that still contains tasks, Milestone asks where to move them first — pick a destination column, then confirm Delete. No tasks are lost.
